August 10, 2026 — Nonymize today launched a privacy tool that removes client-identifying details from transcripts and documents before they reach AI systems like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Copilot.
The product addresses a workflow that has become standard across professional services and largely goes unexamined: a client call ends, an AI notetaker produces a transcript, and that transcript gets pasted into a consumer AI tool for a summary or analysis. The transcript typically contains names, employers, financial figures, and details disclosed in confidence.
"Most professionals have two options right now," said Ryan Cox, co-founder. "Spend thirty minutes manually scrubbing a transcript, or paste it in raw and hope. Most people pick the second one. We built the third option."
The regulatory picture has shifted.
In February 2026, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York held in United States v. Heppner that materials a defendant created using a public AI chatbot were protected by neither attorney-client privilege nor the work-product doctrine. A Michigan court reached a different conclusion on similar facts a week later, leaving the question unsettled.
For financial advisors, amended SEC Regulation S-P requires registered investment advisers to maintain oversight procedures for third-party service providers, including AI vendors, with 72-hour breach notification obligations. The compliance deadline for smaller firms passed on June 3, 2026. Consumer AI subscriptions do not offer that contractual commitment.
FINRA's 2026 Oversight Report stated that a firm's reliance on a third party's generative AI tool does not relieve the firm of its ultimate responsibility to comply with applicable securities laws.
How it works
Users upload or paste a transcript. Nonymize detects sensitive entities - names, organizations, contact details, and on paid plans, dates, locations, and financial figures - and replaces them consistently throughout the document. Two output modes are available: Narrative mode uses contextualized tokens like [Person A], [Company B], [Location C] for replacements to keep the document readable for analysis in AI. Compliance mode uses [redacted] for every detected detail without a saved replacement.
The system requires human review before finalizing. Users see the original and anonymized versions side by side, scrolling in sync, and can correct or add replacements before completion.
On finalization, the original file is removed from Nonymize's application storage. The replacement key is purged after seven days.
"We can't automatically carry a client's alias across months of sessions, and that's deliberate," Cox said. "Doing that would require permanently holding the key that links the real person to the tokens. We keep the key for 7 days in case the user wants to download it for themselves, and after day 7 it's deleted. The architecture enforces the policy rather than the other way around."
Detection runs on open-weight models. No closed AI provider processes customer content, and customer transcripts are never used to train, fine-tune, or evaluate any model.
Built from user research
The product was developed alongside interviews with coaches, consultants, attorneys, and UX researchers. Participants consistently estimated that a majority of their peers upload client transcripts to AI tools without modification, one coach put the figure at 70 to 80 percent.
Several findings shaped the product directly, including a compliance-mode interface issue identified during a research session two weeks before launch.
